Our History
Christ Community Church was
founded in February, 1991 and held its first worship service on April 28, 1991.
Thirty baptized Christians were the founding members who called the Rev. William
L. Groennert as their first pastor. In 1993, Christ Community became part of
the
Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) and as a result became Christ
Community Lutheran Church.
The year
1993 also saw the purchase of twenty-six acres in order to build what is now our
existing facility. After a considerable amount of time, energy, and prayer,
ground was broken for the new church on May 31, 2000. The facility was
completed and then dedicated on Pentecost Sunday afternoon, May 19, 2002 and
named the Adelheid and Eugene Luhr Christian Family Life Center, in recognition
of the gracious benevolent gift of Adelheid Luhr, a founding member and
vice-president of the congregation.
On July 16,
2006, the
Rev. Jared M. Parker was called as the second pastor of Christ
Community Lutheran Church. Pastor Jared worked alongside Pastor Bill until
Bill’s retirement in June of 2008.
The
foundation of Christ Community’s identity is in its
weekly worship
– worship
that is grounded in the Scriptures and is centered around the true Word of God,
Jesus Christ. The sacraments of Holy Baptism and Holy Communion also ground our
faith and life and are celebrated regularly.
In addition
to providing worship opportunities and the traditional church ministries, the
people of Christ Community have always sought to live up to their name by
finding ways to reach out to the community around them. In order to enrich the
community, twelve and a half acres were leased at no cost to the Maple Grove
Civic Association for the construction of soccer fields now known as Oerter
Park.
Christ
Community reaches out to the community in still other ways. The ministries of
Hilltop Kids Learning Center,
Bright Beginnings Preschool, and
KidZ Landing, an
after-school and summer program, all exist to serve children and their families in a
kid-friendly, Christ-centered environment.
Christ Community
Lutheran Church has as its mission “…that all may know the Good News of
salvation in Jesus Christ. We share God’s love with joy, inspired by the Holy
Spirit.” As we move forward together, we pray for God’s guidance in this
mission and for whatever else God is calling this church. |
